Merit Solo Shadows Review on Brown Skin

I love an everyday eyeshadow. This summer I was actually looking for a subtle pop of colour that I could wear on my lids that would be wearable for everyday and low maintenance. Looks like I got what I was looking for, but more toned down, and a perfect fall colour.

I was so intrigued to try these for a few reasons:

  • Love, LOVE, LOVE other Merit products – all of the ones I’ve tried so far! Their lipsticks, lip oils and bronzers are all some of my current favourite products.
  • The colour range looked so wearable. Out of the 6 colours available, two caught my eye, Social and Brun. I went with the mauve shade (Social) because I have nothing else like it in my collection.
  • The swatches I was seeing on others looked extremely gorgeous, so I was heavily influenced.

Now, what are my thoughts on the Merit solo shadow formulation, packaging, application, longevity and shade?

Packaging

The packaging of this looks so classy. The MERIT name is etched on. The lid is a STUNNING shade of gold.  And the actual container is a deep shade that’s close to black, but not quite. This colour combo makes this look so expensive! Granted, it may be considered expensive to some, but do you know a Tom Ford single shadow is $58

To open it you twist it off. This is the only thing I would say could be annoying for some. Especially after applying skincare, my hands had no grip so it wasn’t super easy to open.

Another thing to note, is when you close you should feel a click to make sure the lid is secure.

Formulation

The eyeshadow is creamy yet firm to the touch. When you swirl your finger around, you won’t go deep into it like some other single eyeshadows like the Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerize shadows.  When you apply, it transforms to a powder. And it’s very matte, which is a great look for everyday.

Longevity

I put this on in the morning and it stayed put all day. To add, removing it was not easy. I usually just remove my eye makeup with jojoba oil and that was not sufficient!

Shade

This is a personal preference. Being a deep skin tone, this particular mauve shade has always looks gorgeous on our skin tone. If you are deeper than me you may think this shade is a bit light, but you never know unless you try and I think it’s worth a try.

Application

This was so easy to apply.  Using your fingers and dabbing it on was the method I went with. There is a brush you can buy that is made for the Merit Solo Shadows, but the only thing I think you would need it for is to blend it out around your crease so the application looks seamless.

Conclusion

I love these.  If you love a quick one and done eye shadow, this is worth trying. I also have the Laura Mercier, Bobbi brown and Nudestix eyeshadow sticks and they are just as easy to apply as those as well as long lasting.

Let me know if you decide to try them or what you think of them. Would love to know your thoughts!

Xoxo,
