4 Best Powder Blushes for Dark Skin

Lately, cream blushes have been all the rage and powder blushes have taken a back seat. I admit that I have a DEEP LOVE for blushes in general and I have mostly gravitated towards cream blushes these past few years.
Cream blushes are just so easy to use – no fuss! You can use your fingers alone and requires no beauty tools! As an added bonus they apply skin-like.
But, I recently went back to Mac and found that WOW, Mac’s blush range is like no other. My first blush was from Mac, in the shade Peach Twist. Although I no longer own it, I would still recommend that blush today for all my medium-deep brown skinned girls.
I remember when I first tried Peach Twist, I began looking into other blushes, searching for which shades would look best on brown skin. At the time, there was a small pool of brown bloggers that swatched blushes for all of us to see and compare so it was so hard to find any specific colour on someone with the same skin tone as us.
This swatch post brings me back to a simpler time when most beauty content were on blogs! And you had to scour the internet organically to find these posts!
I felt like I hit the jackpot when I found girls that were of a similar skin tone as me.
Now a days, it’s much easier to find a beauty guru with my skin tone and I hope I can be that person for people as well!
SO, let’s get into my favourite powder blushes for us dark skinned women!
Mac Extra Dimension Blush in the shade Cheeky Bits
I reached for this blush at the Mac store because it reminded me of one of my all time loved blushes that got discontinued years ago by Vasanti Cosmetics in the shade Rockies. I loved the bright coral shade.
It was after the wearing a shade like this that I realized that a colour as bright as this would pop on dark skin, without looking clownish.
Never be afraid of those bright colours because these colours can really make our faces look bright and alive!
This colour combined with the shimmer in this formulation, really makes your skin glow! It’s sad that a camera can’t capture that!

Mac Mineralize Blush in the shade Flirting with Danger
This is a recent blush for me. I love this deep, yet bright, cherry shade. This blush formulation is SO skin-like and the colour looks gorgeous on deep skin. I can see this looking great on very deep skin tones too!
I can’t describe the LOVE I currently have for this colour. I think the picture is enough to understand how beautiful this colour is <3!

Mac Powder Blush in the shade Ambering Rose
This is a subtle brownish-pink shade. It’s a great toned down colour, not too bright, and is a great blush that makes you look slightly bronzed.

Buxom Blush in the shade Dolly
This colour is closest to a natural blush colour on my medium-deep skin tone. it’s great for everyday for this reason.
It’s a great option for anyone who’s scared of blush, but wants to amp up their daily makeup routine.
That’s actually why I got this colour – it’s a GREAT everyday blush when you decide to NOT wear much makeup!

3 Tips When Applying Powder Blushes
Avoid using dense brushes
Using a brush with some ‘fluff‘ to it is always best. You don’t want to heavily apply a blush and risk looking clownish.
Stay away from a DENSE brush!
When in doubt, use a brush made for blush!
This sounds like common sense, but I use an angled powder bronzer brush sometimes and it works great! So if you already have something that works, you don’t need a new brush!
Start off ‘SMALL’
If you want a subtle look or aren’t sure how a blush applies because some are SO pigmented, start with just a bit. Use a light hand to apply and only pick up a bit on your brush.
You can always layer more if you prefer!
Did you just apply too much?
If you applied too much, use a beauty blender to blend it out.
If that still doesn’t help, apply some foundation or concealer on top to fade out some of the colour. AGAIN, use a beauty blender to blend, BLEND, BLEND!
Where do I apply blush?
There’s so many options when it comes to where on your face you apply your blush.
I’m assuming, since you’re here, you’re not interested in anything too complicated. That’s not how I roll either!
Here are three of the easiest, most flattering options, and at least one of these options should work for you!
1. Apply to the apple of your cheeks and on your cheeksbones
This give you a nice rosy glow! This has been what i’ve preferred the most recently!
If you’re into the cutesy vibe, try it out this way!
2. Apply to the apple of your cheeks, your cheekbones, and the bridge of your nose
If you want to amp up your blush game, apply it at the bridge of your nose too. It really amps up the cutesy look.
I personally LOVE this look!
3. Apply to your cheekbones starting at just above the apple of your cheeks
Avoiding blush on the apple of your cheeks, gives a more lifted look.
This may be preferred if you have a more mature skin type!

Which one is your fav? Will you be trying any of these? Do you prefer cream or powder blushes? Let me know in the comments! Happy shopping!
